Minister Experiencing MBL

Breakthru Academy at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

On October 3, 2017, Breakthru Academy had an opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of spinal walking in addressing learning behaviours to YB Dato' Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, during the launch of the National Counselling Month.
Several members of the minister's entourage also performed spinal walking. Dato' Seri Rohani urged the members to also look into Building Block Activities taught at Movement Based Learning, Inc, which could be used to assist families and communities. Phoebe Long, one of Breakthru Academy's directors, explained the Academy's mission and activities.
During the event, counsellors from government agencies, including the Police and Prisons Department, as well as higher learning Institutions, were interested to learn more about the Building Block Activities. Facilitators and instructors from Breakthru Academy explained and demonstrated all the activities. Apprentices Cheng Yung Han and Marcus Heng clearly demonstrated pre-activities using balls or infinity 8 board, followed by a building block activity to enable participants to better understand the method.
The experiential nature of all the kinesiology approaches used allowed the counsellors to notice the difference of performing a task, before and after a building block activity. All noted that they were able to perform better after undergoing the building block activities. Several retired government personnel were also interested to learn more about the kinesiology approaches and the 3 P.L.A.Y. taught in Breakthru Academy.
Breakthru Academy, at the invitation of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, also set up a booth during the launch of the National Counselling Month 2017.
